While driving today, I noticed that I kept turning up and down the volume setting, although I listened to the same songs that I used to listen to (from cassette) with my old head unit, and I rarely had to adjust the volume there. Thinking about it, I came to the conclusion that the old head unit may have used some sort of volume compressor, i.e. boost the quiet parts of the track a little while keeping the louder parts untouched. This technique makes a lot of sense for a car stereo, I'd say, as there's always background noise covering the low-volume parts of a track, so this may be a feature for the empeg. What do you think?
